“Touch is a master healer and the first of the five senses that a fetus develops. Every time we touch others, there are two-ways unspoken conversations, regardless of our perception”.
The connective tissue can hold memories of physical and emotional traumatic experiences. These memories can be past or present, both conscious or subconscious. They can manifest as tension, sadness, anxiety, tightness and even as unexplained pain. When gentle touch is combined with directional movements following the flow of energy around body meridians and energy centers, it creates a gentle form of releasing stagnation and toxins.
Since fears and concerns for survival are feelings mostly associated with the energy centers located close to the lower back and reproductive system, targeted body work to release the pelvic region, lumbar spine and hips can bring not only tension relief in a physical sense but unexpected emotional downloads. Women, in particular, often find pelvic and abdominal body work extremely therapeutic to regulate mood swings, normal bowel movements, food cravings and body cycles that tend to fluctuate due to stress, hormonal imbalances, dehydration and intestinal conditions.
The massage that I do is a balancing massage. It is a soothing, somatic-touch type of massage to help release tension, repressed emotions and balance the body cycles. My massage body work specializes in balancing the feminine body.
I have gained my DMT (diploma in massage therapy) in the Middle East through an accredited British organization (CIBTAC), operating worldwide. This puts me in an advantageous position as a body therapist since I’m professionally trained internationally and respectful of the customs and traditions pertaining each culture. I take professional care ensuring my client’s individual needs are fully supported.
Massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system to promote relaxation and reduce pain signals to the brain. One of the main ways massage achieves its relaxing effects is by decreasing the stress hormone cortisol and promoting the release of neurotransmitters and hormones that make us feel good. When you get a massage, your brain releases more dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.
- Dopamine is a neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of pleasure and motivation. Massage helps increase dopamine levels.
- Serotonin regulates mood, sleep, appetite, and cognitive functions. Massage boosts serotonin, resulting in improved mood and relaxation.
- Oxytocin is a hormone released during positive social interactions. Massage triggers oxytocin release, evoking feelings of calmness and connection, particularly supportive when we feel lonely.
By stimulating the release of these chemicals in the brain, massage can boost mood, reduce stress and anxiety, promote feelings of well-being, and improve sleep and mental clarity. When massage is combined with selected essential oils blends, specific to the issue affecting the client, the therapeutic benefits of the treatment are more profound.
